LECTURE METHOD WITH MR. MARSIGIT

Prof. Dr. Marsigit, M.A. is the leturer of English in the Yogyakarta State University, especially in Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

Mr. Marsigit has two son, two daughter in law, and one grand son.

Mr. Marsigit learn English from informal education. He is not talented in English, but in Senior High School he started to like English because of his willingness to study abroad. His educational background is S1 Mathematics Education, S2 Mathematics Education for Primary School, and S3 Philosophy of Mathematics.

In second semester of Mathematics Education, we have to learn English. Not only Mr. Marsigit, but we also taught by Mr. Ilham. Mr.Ilham have the background S1 Mathematics Education, S2 Mathematics Education in Netherland.

Mr. Marsigit said that “the lecturer who teach you must have the background of english and mathematics educational background”, but it is difficult to find out the people who meet the criteria, and Mathematics Education class C 2013 UNY is very lucky, because we taught by two people whose meet the criteria.

Information from experienced people is very important, Mr. Marsigit share us the strategy on how to learn english for mathematics education, we have to make an approach, but before the approach there is a believe, if we have a believe we will understand the information.

Mr. Marsigit assumption :

1.      You’re an adult, it means that you are different from young, the difference between adult and young is the responsible.

2.      You’re responsible for your own learning.

3.      We have similar chance to learn English.

4.      You’re an active learner.

5.      English is life.

6.      Learning is is constructing.

7.      Learning English is to construct your English.

8.      English is a mean of communication.

9.      Learning english for mathematics education means communicating mathematics education in english.

This is the rule or the method, how we learn english for mathematics education in university especially with Mr. Marsigit :

1.      First, Mr. Marsigit will give us weekly test about vocabulary and grammar from general to specific about life. He will give us some word in Indonesian and we have to write down what it named in English. The word can be from what Mr. Marsigit doing or what he says.

2.      Second, we choose the posting which is related to mathematics education or mathematics teaching learning process on Mr. Marsigit blogs (marsigitenglish.blogspot.com and powermathematics.blogspot.com) and write a coment on it.

3.      Third, Video tape recorder (VTR) : record what Mr. Marsigit say and make a reflections and post it on blog and give the print out to Mr. Marsigit with the blog adress.

4.      And the last, watching video about mathematics in English and you have to present what you get from the video to Mr. Marsigit.
